About the Disciples of Christ Historical Society
The mission of DCHS is to preserve and proclaim the story of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) within the context of the broader Stone-Campbell tradition out of which it grows.
We believe that denominational archives like ours are not only repositories for documents, artifacts, and ideas but, at their best, they are sources for the church’s work for justice and wholeness in the world. We are committed to stewarding a collection that documents the racial and ethnic diversity of the Stone-Campbell movement.
Our collection comprises nearly 14,000 linear feet of archival records, books, periodicals and artifacts; about 1,000 linear feet of collection material is stored in an off-site storage facility. In recent years, we have averaged 60 donations of collection material annually. About half of these donations were archival aggregations; the other half were books, periodicals, and vertical file material. The majority of our reference transactions are conducted via email, and we welcome researchers to use our collections onsite.
As a team, we value camaraderie, thought partnership, and having a safe environment to try out new ideas.
