Service Group Creates Impact at Alexander Campbell’s Home

News

June 20, 2024

The Disciples of Christ Historical Society welcomed a service group from First Christian Church, Huntsville, Texas, who spent May 27 – June 1 working at the Campbell Home. This is part of a long-standing fourteen-year relationship between First Christian Church Huntsville, Texas, and the Historical Society, over the course of which the church has made various repairs at the Campbell Mansion.

For this trip, the group of adults worked on restoring the front porch of the Campbell House, which suffered significant water damage. The service group was hosted by Bethany Memorial Church and housed at Bethany College.

The group from Huntsville, Texas, joined by members of Bethany Memorial Church, worked on removing and replacing rotted boards and priming and painting the new porch boards and spindles in need of care. In addition to the repairs made to the water-damaged areas, group participants also took care of the surrounding grounds–removing a dead apple tree, trimming trees and shrubs, creating and updating flower beds, pulling weeds from gardens and pathways, and tidying the herb garden.

The Historical Society is grateful for the care and work First Christian Church, Huntsville, Texas, brought to the grounds of the Campbell Mansion. If you or your congregation are interested in supporting the care of the Campbell Mansion or wish to plan a trip, we encourage you to contact the Historical Society. Together we can all ensure the preservation of our history as we create our future.
