Our Vision
The “Restore & Renew: The Campbell Papers Project” aims to preserve, relocate, and eventually digitize the Alexander Campbell Papers and Library, currently at Bethany College, to the Disciples of Christ Historical Society (DCHS). This Capital Campaign will fund a dedicated library to house the Campbell Collection, ensuring its protection for future generations. The project also includes renovating DCHS’s archival offices to create a modern facility for preserving and studying Alexander Campbell’s legacy and the Stone-Campbell Movement.
Our Goals
This Capital Campaign’s first phase seeks to raise $3 million to fund the Campbell Library and archival office renovations. The new facility will preserve the Campbell Collection, provide enhanced workspace, and establish an endowed staff position focused on the collection. A successful campaign will secure one of the most valued collections in Disciples history for the future.

Restore
The Restore phase focuses on safeguarding Alexander Campbell’s personal papers and library, foundational to the Stone-Campbell Movement. First housed in Campbell’s study, this project will restore both the original study and Campbell’s invaluable papers and books, preserving his legacy just steps from the new library.
Renew
The Renew phase envisions a future where Campbell’s works inspire ongoing study and inform faith. By building a dedicated library and digitizing the Campbell Collection, this project will create a digital repository accessible to scholars, students, and church members worldwide, extending Campbell’s legacy across generations and borders.
Preservation and Accessibility
The Campbell Papers Project addresses the urgent need to relocate the Alexander Campbell Collection, which is at risk of deterioration. Building a climate-controlled library at DCHS will safeguard this critical collection, aligning with our mission to preserve Stone-Campbell history. Digitizing the collection will make it accessible well beyond its new home.
We invite you to make a commitment to the Restore and Renew Campaign today.
