It has been 50 years since the Disciples of Christ Historical Society was brought into being by the International Convention (now the General Assembly). It is time to celebrate! We celebrate not only DCHS but also the service it provides to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the other expressions of the Stone-Campbell Movement.

As a part of that celebration the Board of Trustees of the Society wished to have a history written. It was their desire to record the development of the library, archives and building. In addition, it was their desire to take a look at the program of the Society and to propose future opportunities of service.

No better qualified person to write that history could have been found than Dr. James M. Seale. As a longtime member of DCHS, and as current President of the Society, Dr. Seale is in a unique position to tell the story. The history which he has written reviews the developments of the past 50 years in a most interesting manner. He reveals details of the
organization, personalities and needs of the Society so that all may take pride in the accomplishments of the past and anticipate programs of the future.

Lester G. McAllister, Chairperson
The 50th Anniversary Committee
Claremont, California
