Oscar Haynes Exhibit Opens in Indianapolis

News

May 1, 2024

On Friday, March 15, the Disciples of Christ Historical Society hosted the launch of the Oscar Haynes Exhibit on African American Disciples History in its new home at Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis, IN. Oscar Haynes, for whom the exhibit is named, was the first layperson to be appointed as president of the National Convocation. Oscar’s wife, Rev. Joan Bell-Haynes, was the evening’s honored guest.

The Oscar Haynes exhibit seeks to preserve and share the history of African American Disciples and features several leaders and organizations from across the Stone-Campbell movement. The current installation of the Oscar Haynes exhibit, featuring Preston Taylor and Sarah Lue Bostick, will be available for viewing at Light of the World through the middle of 2025.
