The Disciples of Christ Historical Society is excited to host several opportunities to connect with members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at the 2025 General Assembly, July 12-15, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Workshop
Join us for our workshop Congregational Histories 101: How to Collect, Research, and Share the Story of Your Congregation on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 8:45am-10:00am. This hands-on workshop will guide participants through the process of preserving and sharing their congregation’s unique history. Whether you’re a seasoned local church historian or an aspiring one, you will learn practical strategies for collecting oral histories, organizing archival materials, and utilizing digital tools to make their stories accessible to future generations. Whether your congregation is just beginning its historical journey or looking to enhance existing efforts, this workshop offers valuable insights and resources for all. Register for this workshop as part of your General Assembly event registration.
Meal
Join the Disciples of Christ Historical Society and Christian Unity and Interfaith Ministry for dinner on Sunday, July 13 at 5pm. The dinner will feature the combined Peter Ainslie (CUIM) and Forrest F. Reed (DCHS) Lecture, entitled “Signs of Wholeness in Our Fragmented World” which will be given by Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC). Registration and payment for the meal are part of the event registration of the 2025 General Assembly.
Booth
Our booth, located inside the exhibit hall, will feature the opportunity to connect with our staff, collect our newest line of Disciples trading cards, and learn more about the newest work of the Society. We will also be welcoming former General Minister and President Dick Hamm to our booth for a signing of his book Called To and From: A Personal Reflection on Life and Leadership in the Mainline American Church at the End of the Twentieth Century (Disciples of Christ Historical Society, 2025).
We look forward to connecting with you at the General Assembly and sharing the resources we will be creating with the wider church following the July gathering.
