The Historical Society is excited to announce the launch of its newly designated archival work wing. This remodeled space represents a significant advancement in our ability to apply archival best practices, while ensuring the security of the invaluable collections we steward.
This new area, located in the west wing of the Historical Society, is now home to our archival reading room, staff offices, and workstation. A workstation is a dedicated space specifically designed for managing and processing archival materials. What is achieved in the workstation plays a crucial role in safeguarding irreplaceable records, supporting ongoing research, and ensuring the long-term accessibility of collections.
With the addition of the new workstation, the Historical Society’s staff can manage multiple projects at once. It provides ample space for carefully reviewing, organizing, and preserving materials, while also serving as a central hub for archival supplies and equipment. Located in close proximity to the Society’s collections vault, this area offers staff quick and direct access to materials. At the same time, it ensures that public research activities remain separated from the collections, balancing the needs between facilitating access and maintaining security of the Historical Society’s holdings.
The newly designated archival work wing supports our ongoing mission to preserve and share the rich history of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Stone-Campbell tradition. It is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to safeguard these historic collections and maintain their accessibility for the future.
