Announcing the Anthony Dunnavant Memorial Fund

News

November 26, 2025

The Historical Society is pleased to share the establishment of the Anthony L. Dunnavant Memorial Fund at the Christian Church Foundation. The fund is named in honor of Rev. Dr. Anthony (Tony) Dunnavant, a historian of the Stone-Campbell Movement, who served as Professor of Church History and also as Dean at Lexington Theological Seminary. Dr. Dunnavant was active in the life of the Historical Society and published a number of articles and books on Disciples history. He was one of the editors of the Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement. Explore the finding aid for Dr. Dunnavant’s personal papers, which are housed at the Historical Society.

In recognition of the 25th Anniversary of his death on February 8, 2001, his siblings, Kay D. Slonaker, Terry A. Dunnavant, and Nellie D. Durham have established the Anthony L. Dunnavant Memorial Fund at the Christian Church Foundation with the annual distributions to be shared by the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, Lexington Theological Seminary, and The Cane Ridge Shrine, Inc.

To support this memorial fund, contributions may be sent to:
