Friends, supporters, and scholars may be interested to know that The Journal of Discipliana (JOD) has recently undergone enhancement. The enhancement stems from DCHS’s recent expansion of JOD’s presence on two major scholarly communication platforms: JSTOR and OJS.
JSTOR is one of the largest digital libraries of scholarly materials, especially strong in the humanities and social sciences–its name originally standing for Journal Storage but now just used as an acronym. As a result of the partnership DCHS has entered into with JSTOR early this year, all of JOD ‘s issues will eventually migrate to JSTOR. This will enable any article published in the Journal of Disciplana, going all the way back to 1941, search-and-downloadable. This new function will not only aid seasoned researchers of the Stone-Campbell Movement but also increase the journal’s visibility among scholars unfamiliar with the DCHS website, since someone searching JSTOR for, say, Alexander Campbell or Barton W. Stone, could encounter JOD articles in the same search results as established JSTOR journal literature.
The other improvement comes from JOD’s recent subscription to Open Journal Systems (OJS), an online publishing platform used by scholarly journals around the world. Like JSTOR, OJS also makes the Journal and its articles easier to find online and preserves them for long-term access. But it has the added benefit of streamlining the production of the Journal by bringing submissions, peer review, editing, layout, and publication together in one system. By improving both the production process and online accessibility, OJS and JSTOR will help the Journal of Discipliana reach a wider audience and make scholarship on the Stone-Campbell tradition more readily available to scholars, students, church members, and other interested readers. We at JOD and DCHS are excited about these enhancements and remain grateful for your continual support that has made them possible.
